The Spyderco Stovepipe is a collaboration with renowned knife maker David Rydbom and Spyderco in which one of his most popular custom-made products "The Butcher" has been translated into a unique series model. First designed in 2009, it was inspired by the film Gangs of New York and its depiction of the infamous historical The character William Poole, also known as "Bill the Butcher". His blade, which is reminiscent of a classic razor or meat cleaver, is also a reminiscence of all the folding knives with this shape made after the Civil War. The name Stovepipe became historic appropriately based on the "stovepipe" hat that William Poole wore in the film.
Visually, the Stovepipe is one of the most impressive folding knives Spyderco has ever made. Its massive 4mm thick hatchet-like hollow ground blade is made from CPM® 20CV steel, an advanced powder metallurgy stainless steel that has a high content of vanadium carbides and the highest chromium content of any vanadium-containing stainless steel currently available. This blend gives CPM 20CV steel a remarkable combination of high wear resistance, superior corrosion resistance and good impact resistance. With great attention to detail, the beautifully shaped titanium handle scales also form the basis for the Reeve Integral Lock (RIL), which securely locks the blade when open. Clip and the backspacers are made of titanium.
