Cold Steel Magnum Tanto XII San Mai
Magnum Tanto XII with San Mai® steel blade
San Mai® American Tanto Series
In today's blade industry, no one knows more about the Tanto than Cold Steel®. After all, Cold Steel® was arguably the company that reinvented and popularized this type of knife in the early 1980s. Cold Steel® has invested millions of dollars in advertising, live events and videos to convince the public of the many benefits of the Tanto knife. Cold Steel® has been making Tantos for more than 35 years now, and to this day no manufacturer or custom knifemaker has been able to produce a Tanto with anything close to the cutting and penetrating power of a Cold Steel® Tanto.
On all Tantos in this series, the longitudinally ground blade surface has visible grinding lines and forms a beautiful contrast to the hollow-ground, satin-finished primary bevel. This further emphasizes the unique look of the Cold Steel® Tanto and is a perfect example of the state-of-the-art grinding processes used by Cold Steel®. These Tantos also feature Cold Steel®'s famous Kray-Ex™ handle with a flattened oval profile. The flat-oval shape provides a secure grip as the handle molds to the palm and won't wobble or twist, even in tougher applications that would have ruined lesser quality knives long ago. The use of Kray-Ex™ for knife handles is another innovation from Cold Steel®. This material from the space age is simply second to none. It will neither crack nor rot and is resistant to the most adverse weather conditions. Another feature worth mentioning is the tapered pommel made of solid steel, designed by Lynn C. Thompson, which can serve as an effective striking piece in an emergency.
Each Tanto knife in the San Mai® series comes with a sturdy, high-quality Secure-Ex® sheath that will withstand years of heavy use and allow you to carry your knife with you ready to grip and use.
The San Mai® is an expertly crafted three-layer stainless steel. A hard carbon steel is sandwiched between flexible low-carbon spring steel. This guarantees maximum edge retention with great resistance to lateral and impact stress. San Mai® is a worldwide registered trademark of Cold Steel®. This steel, produced in extremely small quantities, is used exclusively for Cold Steel®'s most exclusive fixed collector's blades.
